Kassa Overall - drums // Aaron Parks - piano // Daryl Johns - bass

Kassa Overall is a jazz drummer as well as a multi faceted solo artist. Since moving to NYC via Seattle WA he has recorded and toured with some of the most forward thinking artists in many genres especially what is considered “Jazz.” (Geri Allen, Vijay Iyer, Steve Coleman, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Gary Bartz etc...)

He is currently focused on solo endeavors including his debut as a frontman entitled “Black Yoga.” This body of work comes from a Hip Hop vein but he does not like to look at art in terms of categories. Hardly some staid conscious hip-hop throwback, Kassa is wary of coming across as preachy. “I feel like we’re in a world of know-it-alls,” he says. “There’s a lot of assuming, and I think that stops people from learning. As soon as you define something, you close yourself off from possibilities.

Following a few years of formal partnership with Kool A.D. in the rap duo Peaceful Solutions, Kassa’s solo venture fearlessly explores dark corners of the mind, not to wallow in negative sentiments but rather to expose them in pursuit of personal betterment. “To become a master, you have to always be a student,” Kassa says. “The way we approach our daily life should be more studious. You don’t have to agree, but you have to be open.”
